One of the most promising laser vision correction procedures now being performed at NewView Laser Eye, Inc. is Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis or LASIK. LASIK is proving to be effective in treating almost all levels of farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.
LASIK is performed by folding back a thin layer of the cornea, which allows Dr. Griffiths to use the VISX S4 Excimer Laser to gently reshape the inner layers of the cornea without damaging the outer portion. The LASIK procedure allows patients to enjoy a faster visual recovery than most other refractive procedures, and healing is quite rapid. Dr. Griffiths is among the first refractive surgeons in America currently performing LASIK.
Laser Vision Correction is an outpatient procedure performed at NewView Laser Eye, Inc. The actual laser time is usually less than a minute and most patients are in and out of the surgery center in 15 minutes. The procedure itself is painless and patients are not put to sleep during the procedure. Very strong anesthetic eye drops are given about a half hour before and again immediately before the surgeon begins. Generally, most patients are quite comfortable within a very short time after Lasik and return to work the next day. Laser Vision Correction is very safe and the degree of risk is low.
