Will Blepharoplasty Improve My Vision?
If you have sagging eyelid skin, you may feel self-conscious that it makes you look more tired and older than your years.
But what happens if your sagging eyelid skin is preventing you from enjoying your full field of vision?
As it turns out, drooping or excessive eyelid skin can get in the way of your vision, preventing you from seeing everything the way you should. For some patients, drooping skin can be so significant that it may be impacting their quality of life.
That’s why you may have this question in mind: “Will blepharoplasty improve my vision?”
How Laser Blepharoplasty Can Improve Your Vision
At NewView Eye Center in Reston, VA, ophthalmologist Dr. Jacqueline Griffiths specializes in blepharoplasty, both on the upper eyelids and lower eyelids.
Here’s how it works: Dr. Griffiths typically uses local anesthesia for the whole blepharoplasty procedure. For the upper eyelids, incisions are made in the natural folds of the eyelid, in the crease of the upper eyelid and just beneath the lashes or behind the lower eyelid allowing healing to take place and making it difficult to see any scarring. For the lower eyelids, incisions are done behind or inside of the eyelid. A highly skilled ophthalmologist like Dr. Griffiths is able to do this method, known as a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, meaning no external incision is needed to remove excess skin & fat deposits.
Results include smoother skin with less sagging, as well as younger-looking eyes that look alert, brighter, and ready to take on the day!
Health Insurance May Cover Your Treatment
A blepharoplasty procedure isn’t just a great option for patients looking for a cosmetic improvement; it can also significantly improve your field of vision. If your sagging eyelids make it difficult for you to see, blepharoplasty can make it possible to see again.
We recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Griffiths to see if you’re a candidate for blepharoplasty. In some cases, your health insurance may cover some or all of the costs of your treatment, especially if your vision has been adversely affected by sagging eyelid skin.
